Set Multiple web-pages as Home page for Browser !!

I was quite surprised with the amount of time I had to spend remembering & opening the pages I wanted whenever I open Firefox/IE. I accidentally discovered that I could set multiple pages to open whenever I open my browser.

  • Open the Internet Properties / Options ( under firefox)
  • Type the URL’s you want separated by “|” pipe symbol.
  • Save; Exit and Restart and try

In IE 8: You can enter the URL’s directly 1 below the other.

Try out !!!

Change Windows Registration Information !!

As you all know from my previous posts that I reinstalled Windows & didn’t care about putting the correct Registration information !!! Now I’m having to change the information EVERY time I install any application…. I had to change it … HOW ???

  • Open Run / Press “Pearl” type regedit and Hit Enter !
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion
  • Find “RegisteredOrganization” , Doubleclick to change to required “Organization”
  • Find “RegisteredOwner” , Doubleclick to change to required “Name”
  • Reboot and check, It should be done !!!!

Now no need to keep changing the Registration Information EVERY time I install a new Application !!

Why is Vista SP1 not available on Windows Update ?

Microsoft Says that Windows Vista SP1 MAY not be available for all users using Vista…. I did a search around MS KB & found the below reasons:

Cause 1
You are already running Windows Vista SP1.

Cause 2
Windows Vista SP1 has not been released for the language of the language pack that you have installed.

Cause 3
Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool is used to block the delivery of Windows Vista SP1 from Automatic Updates or from Windows Update.

Cause 4
You tried to install Windows Vista SP1, and the installation failed with a known inconsistency in the file or registry structure.

Cause 5
A hardware device driver or device software was problematic when you updated to Windows Vista SP1.

The Windows Update service can detect the small set of device drivers and software that falls into this category. The Windows Update service will not offer Windows Vista SP1 until an update for the hardware device driver or the device software has been installed.

Cause 6
You have installed a prerelease version of Windows Vista SP1, and you must uninstall the prerelease version, or start with a new installation of Windows Vista.

Cause 7
You used the third-party program vLite to configure the system, and you may have removed required system components that have to be available for Windows Vista SP1 to be installed.
For more information, visit the following vLite Web site:
http://www.vlite.net

Cause 8
You see one or more updates for Windows Vista when you run Windows Update. However, you do not see Windows Vista SP1 listed.

My Vista SP1 Experience !!

Hmmm… Atlast I’m ready to write about my tryst with Vista SP1 !
To be honest – I love updates !!! I donno why but I always want my system to be up-to-date on every s/w I have installed… Even with drivers & even my phone firmware !!! U can call me a little crazy over updates…. Even though I have left my Vista to do automatic updates…. I manually scan for updates everyday… Can you beat that ?????
Back to Vista SP1.. I have been trying real hard to get my hands on SP1 from the day I read that SP1 is RTM’ed … I even checked with my work place IT admin’s ….. For some reason, I was really frustrated because all I could get the same registry hack update !!! Still I installed that as well … it was just a 50MB download thru Windows Update. Now AM I satisfied ???? Never … I Reinstalled Windows.. Then ran all updates and then Downloaded SP1 ( 444 MB – of course from MSDN ) and installed it…. It took me close to 40 mins to install it.
I really didn’t notice any difference – I can only feel its a little faster in terms of data transfer and I did notice a change in disk defrag… It now gives me a choice to choose which drives to run it on :) .
